Modeling and simulation of interface failure in metal-composite hybrids

The application of hybrid composites in lightweight engineering enables the combination material-specific advantages fiber-reinforced polymers and classical metals. interface between connected materials is particular interest since failure often initializes bonding zone. In this contribution connection an aluminum component a glass epoxy considered on microscale. constitutive modeling accounts for adhesive local interfaces cohesive bulk material. Interface represented by zone models, while behavior polymer described elastic-plastic damage model. A gradient-enhanced formulation applied to avoid well-known mesh dependency continuum models. numerical homogenization schemes allows prediction effective traction-separation relations. Therefore, influence strength geometry random rough macroscopical properties investigated study. There positive effect increased roughness joint behavior.
